Declaration of Independence

Declaration of Independence is a statement that the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, announced that the thirteen colonies were independent states from Great Britain. The Declaration was written by Thomas Jefferson. The Declaration is a basic explanation of why the Congress had voted on the 2nd of July a year after the American Revolutionary War. It justified the independence by listing complaints against King Gorge III and by confirming certain natural rights. After the American Revolution, the text was completely ignored. Its significance grew over the years especially the second sentence within the text:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are, Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness."

This sentence was known to be one of the best sentences to be written in the English language and consequential words in the American history. The document was published as a printed broadside, meaning the first copy ever made, that was made for the towns people to read. The most famous version, a signed copy, is on display at the National Archives in Washington D.C. Some say that the Declaration was not signed on the 4th of July but signed a month later on the 2nd of August, 1776. These beliefs were said to be told by scholars. The Declaration of Independence, was made to protect the individual’s rights and this greatly influenced Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the U.S, who said that the text was a foundation of his political philosophy. He promoted the idea that the Declaration is a statement of the principles that which the American Constitution should be interpreted.

I think it was amazing that a The British colonies declared independence before they actually were independent form Britain, It just shows you how bad the Americans to be wanted their freedom.
