Why did World War I come to an end?
The war ended with Germany singing an armistice and surrendering. The war was lost because more than a million American forces pored into France and they were going for Germany. The fighting had to stop while peace terms were being figured out.
How was a final settlement of World War I established?
The Paris Peace Conference, it was a meeting that 32 different countries met in Paris to decide the final settlement of the war.
What goals did Wilson, Clemenceau, and Lloyd George have going into the Paris Peace Conference? Were those goals achieved?
Woodrow Wilson was the president of the United States of America and he was more idealistic, he had 14 points. He wanted peace, he wanted democratic government and an association of nations.
David Lloyd George was the newly elected prime minister of Great Britain. He had more of an easy and simple plan, make Germany pay for all of the reparations for this war.
George Clemenceau was the premier of France and his goal was to gain protection and security since they were boarding their enemy. He expressed that his people could at any second suffer from Germanys aggression. He wanted Germany stripped of their weapons. He also mentioned that Germany should be held responsible and should pay for this war.
The three men didn't get exactly what they all wanted, but they did make a compromise. Woodrow Wilsons goal was achieved on January 25th 1919, a League of Nations was created to prevent any future global conflict that could lead to war. George Clemenceau got some French security in this compromise. David Lloyd George also got a fair share because Germany had to sign the Treaty of Versailles.
What happened to Germany?
Germany was forced to sign the Treaty of Versailles because if not, they would loose all their trade relationships. Therefore, they signed the Treaty of Versailles which stated the War Guilt Clause which meant that they started the war, they had to pay reparations for the war and they were ordered to reduce their army to 10,000 men, eliminate their airfare and shorten their navy.
