Total War?

Post  Sarah Marti Roy on Mon May 04, 2015 11:58 pm

After Ferdinand was assassinated, Austria- Hungary declared war on Serbia. It led to the allies of Austria- Hungary (Germany) to declare war on the Allies nations of WWI (Russia, U.K., France, etc.). The colonized countries (Pacific Islands, Africa, Asia) outside of Europe also were involved in the war due to their imperializes. After Germany's many success in Europe, they began to patrol parts of the Atlantic (after defeating the British Navy) in U- boats, sinking many ships. The U.S. had a non- intervention policy, but it was strained when the Germans sunk the Lusitania, killing 128 Americans. America warned the Germans that they would not tolerate the attacks on Americans, but the Germans resumed their submarine warfare. The U.S. intercepted the Zimmerman telegram, which was to be sent to Mexico, telling them to attack the U.S. The Germans continued to sink seven more U.S. merchant ships, plus the telegram, the U.S. finally declared war on Germany.

The reason the US got involved in WWI was because on the ship that was shot by Germans were American passengers and now when their own people were involved in WWI they couldn't stay neutral. That was what made Germany loose the chance of winning the war.
