Alliances of World War I

Post  Joshua T on Mon May 04, 2015 2:08 pm

There were four long term causes of World War 1. These four long term causes were Militarism, Alliances, Nationalism, and Imperialism. Just before World War One, Alliance were being formed. An Alliance is when two or more nations sign a treaty to team up. When these alliances were formed, tensions between countries were increasing. Triple Alliance was formed by Germany, Austria-Hungary, Italy (later switched bands). and the Ottoman Empire. The Triple Entente was formed by Russia, France, and Great Britain. When Archduke was murdered, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. After this happened a chain reaction occurred because of the Alliance system. Europe was in war. Each alliance had to fight for their alliance.

The Alliance System would come into play when a country declared war on another. Both of the forces wouldn't be fighting on their own, they had alliances that also joined to protect and help. All the alliances joined and thats how the war expands.
