Elephants (2nd Punic War)

Post  David Strauss on Thu Mar 26, 2015 12:43 pm

Elephants were used in the 2nd Punic War against Rome. Hannibal, Carthaginian general, sent 60 elephants over for battle. They were used for battle and transportation. They would give the elephants wine to make them fearless. They burned their feet’s to make them angry attack the people. The down part of this is that they can’t determine a Carthaginian soldier and a Roman Soldier. These elephant can’t be born again because that species was extinct. One thing that Hannibal did was that he went through the alps with these elephants. Smile

Good topic! So yes, the elephants were an important part of the Carthaginian army. They worked as tanks, crashing the opponents fast and fearless. it was a pretty good idea except for that the elephants don't know who is Roman and who is Carthaginian, which meant both armies were in danger, but Hannibal had to take a risk.

David what you wrote is good because you mention that elephants were the animal that the Carthaginian utilize in wars. Another thing is that you said that’s good was that they went extinct, which people suspect it was that these war between Rome and Carthage. The other thing is that the leader of Carthage took these elephants through the Alps which it is ridiculous. At last what you wrote is good. Very Happy

Very good! Did you know that they would get the elephants drunk so they felt more strong and that made them more confident and it helped the soldiers.

Elephants were a very component to the punic wars. They were used by the carthagians. It gave them an advantage in war because elephants are huge and scary so they would burn the elephants feet and get them drunk before war, so they would go angry and attack the enemy. Elephants were great for the war.

Great job, David! Great information and facts! Elephants played a huge rule in that war, and thanks to them, they beat many people. When the elephants were arriving, people heard the thumps and got freacked out. Today, sadly, these elephants are extinct.
