How did the assassination of Archduke Francis spark the WW1?

Post  Gloria H. on Mon Mar 16, 2015 3:28 pm

Franz Ferdinand born 18th of December 1863 – and died 28 June of 1914. He was an Archduke of Austro-Hungarian.
Franz Ferdinand was the the archduke of Austria-Hungry right before WWI. his assassination was carried out by rebels who were trying to become free from Austria-Hungry.
After he was assassinated, Austria declared war on Serbia, but as Austria was not able fully pay for it. Germany helped them, and they did it to help themselves, as the Kaiser at the time wanted to build himself an Empire, which would involve a war with Britain and France because their colonial ambitions went againt germany

I think, in a way, Austria-Hungary was glad that their Archduke was murdered, because it gave them to reason they had been searching for to attack. It was the last straw Europe needed to begin their world war... Interesting to think how this war included so many deaths, and yet there was another war not a century later, known as WWII. I wish people would learn from previous mistakes.

The day that Archuduke Fraz Ferdinand was killed was the day that the war started. This day is June 28th, 1914. He was killed by Gavrilov Princip, a serbian nationalist.

It is interested to see how fast the War grew because it kept on involving more and more countries. Each country had its enemies and its allies which is how it made countries become more involved in the war. This War was about countries needing to have a better military force. Great topic gloriaaaa!

Great topic! This assassination was a short term cause of world war 1. As you may know, the long term causes were nationalism, militarism, imperialism, and alliances. These for terms resume the causes of world war one.
