The Model ’T’ Ford

Post  Alicia M. on Fri Mar 06, 2015 11:16 am

The second industrial revolution depended on the integration of mass production with mass marketing. Henry Ford invented a car called The Model ’T’ Ford in 1908. also called ‘Tin Lizzie’, It’s top speed was 45Kph, costing $1200 in 1909. Eventually, by $295, its price decrease to only $295. This change was made due to the mass production and it’s interchangeable parts. As Henry Ford states ‘A costumer can have any color he likes for his car as long as it’s black’. To enforce his massive production, Ford came up with the assembly line, which would bring the work to the man, instead of the man going to the work. This way of working helped them make more than one car per minute. the cycle or prosperity then came up. This one worked with selling massive cars, but to be able to do that, steel, glass, rubber, leather were needed. Gas stations had to open in several places, allowing more jobs, which let to increase the amount of people with the ability to afford a car.

I find it hilarious that their motto was actually, "A customer can have any color as long as it is black." It sounds ridiculous, but it tricks people into thinking the have a choice. I suppose when people realized that they were being tricked they found it humorous, so it was a win-win situation for Ford. Similar tricks are still used today to get customers to buy products, such as giving a 1 cent discount. A toothpaste will cost $2.99, not $3, because it makes people think two dollars first, not three. On first impression, it seems cheaper. Good work!

I believe that Henry Ford should never be forgotten because his invention of this automobile was amazing and has helped our world, our life wouldn't be like it is now if it wasn't for him. Each minute, a new car was created. The cars were very cheap and it was very good because it meant that a lot of families could afford them. It was great because it made the money move around more in the country. Whenever people traveled they needed to pay for gas and also if ever they had to fix a part of the car they had to buy the new pieces. It opened gas stations, and also people started to do family trips because they would go camping with the car. Keep up the good work alicia!
