Second Persian War

Post  Francisco Jimenez on Fri Jan 30, 2015 10:20 am

All of Greece war in fear, knowing that the Persian army has already begun there invasion in Greece. To defeat the Persians the Greek city states left there differences aside and fought together as one. The Greeks decided that the city state of Sparta should be the leader of the because of there reputation on the battlefield. The Greeks had chosen to defend a narrow pass in the mountains called Thermopylae. 300 hundred Spartans and 6,000 other Greeks were facing an army of 100,000 men. In battle the Persians were unable to use there numbers to there advantage because since the pass was so narrow only a few Persians could get in, and this brilliant strategy helped the Greeks fight for 3 days to come. After these 3 days the Greeks at Thermopylae were all killed by the Persians, because a Greek traitor told them how to get around Thermopylae and surround the Greek soldiers.

Second Persian War

Great Topic! Did you know that in Greece it was rumored that the Persian army was over a million men. Also, after that the Persians went straight to Athens and burnt it down. Then they followed some Greeks that were "Escaping", only to notice that it was a trap. Very Happy

Francisco what you wrote about the Second Persian War was really interesting, because you mention how the Persian and Greek army fought against each other. The thing that I really did understand was how the Greek soldiers had to defend this narrow path way called Thermopylae. Another thing is that your blog helped to remember how those Greeks gave three days for those Greeks in Athens to make a plan for winning against Persia. Still what you have wrote was good. Very Happy

I found the second Persian war to be more than the first. There was more action, since there were actually two battles that had happened. There was the one in Thermopylae where 300 of the best Spartan soldiers died fighting against the Persians. Then there was the Battle of Salamis which was between the persians and the Athenians. Eventually, Athenians won.

Great job, Francisco! What you said is very true and very interesting. Also, the Spartans helped out Athens here and instead of giving up, like some of the people in the back, the 300 Spartans kept fighting until the end, not giving up. They fought like men and even though their life ended there, they were proud of what they had achieved and couldn’t be prouder.

This is a great topic. It is amazing how such a big army was defeated by an army nearly a fifth of what the Persians had. If you think about it, all you need is a strategy, and that is exactly how the Athenians trapped the Persians.
