Socrates

Post  Roberta2000 on Wed Jan 28, 2015 5:38 pm

Socrates was a Greek philosopher. He encouraged people to examine their own beliefs and ideas. Little is known of his life except for what was recorded by his student, Plato. Socrates was born in the year 469 BC, in Athens, Greece. He used a method of questioning now called the Socratic method, which is used by many teachers and philosophers.
Later on, Socrates started to question if the god really did exist, this made others mad and he was viewed as a threat. Socrates was sentenced to death for “ corrupting the city’s youth and failing to respect the gods” in the year 399 BC. He accepted his death penalty.

Socrates was a brilliant philosopher. He would have lasted longer if it weren't for his death penalty. Thanks to Plato, we know a lot about him. He was always questioning authority and the people. He was kind of like a mosquito, since every where he went he was always asking questions.

Great work Roberta!!!!!!
This was a very interesting topic that you chose. Socrates was a very brave man because he would always agree with other people, but he would also have his disagrees and they will make a debate in which of them was correct. Also Did you know that we know all of theses information about Socrates because his student Plato wrote them all done and he kept record of it in a book called The Republic.

Socrates was a great man and a great philosopher, its a shame that a man like that was put to death for having a different perspective in live. Great post by the way!

Great job! Socrates was a very wise man and knew how to take things in the right way. I honestly don’t understand why and how he took his death penalty so easily. Maybe it was since he was already very old, I mean 70 at that time is like a hundred and something today. He is literally a man we should look up to, also a very important philosopher to take into thought.

Roberta this is really good of what Socrates did and how it took him to his death. The other thing is that I liked was how you said he had this method of questioning, which today is still used by teachers and philosophers. As what you have said of how he corrupted the city by saying God isn't true and was sent to prison was really important. The thing that was the most important is how his student was keeping record of what he said. Very Happy
