the escape

Post  Gloria H. on Thu Jan 22, 2015 11:51 pm

The king was getting destroyed by the people, he and his family decided it was time to leave the country. They were planning on going to Austria, Maria's homeland. He decided to fled the country because rhe could not accept all the reforms people were offering and enforcing. On June 20th, 1791, the king and his family set out at night for the border in a carriage, they dressed up as common people. The king was disguised as a poor person swell as his wife and the son was dressed as a girl.At the border, the guard recognized him, and apparently held a coin up that had his profile, and thats how he identified. Later on all the angry mobs, came to the house they were kept it.

After the angry mob had come to greet them at the police station that they were being kept at the royal family was set under house arrest in the Tuileries Palace in Paris. While they were staying there many mobs had tried to attack him and on June 20th, 1792 one of the mobs almost killed him however the king put on a red cap signifying his surrender to the revolution.

It's crazy to think that if it had been a loyal subject of the king at the border that the kind would have just been able to escape! Can you imagine your president or king/queen just running away from their problems? It's very unproffesional and shows how desperate their family must have been.

Louis didn't want to fight the nobles and clergy, so he hadn't accepted the reasonable compromises the third estate offered in the Estates General. However, when his problems were too much for him to handle, he tried to run away! But then, when he was attacked by the workers, he surrenders and puts on a red hat. Really?! He didn't simply just surrender to the first two estates, he didn't even attempt to fight the third one. He was pushed around like a rag doll and he simply allowed everyone to do so. This should be a lesson enough that appointed rulers based solely on their blood is incredibly ineffective.

Terrible

Post  Joshua T on Wed Feb 04, 2015 10:39 pm

Terrible decision by the king. The Flight to Varennes was probably, for me, one of the most interesting things that King Louis XVI could have done. He is a coward! He tried to flee his country. No respect from me.

As we all know, King Louis XVI was a indecisive king, and one of the biggest that he has made was trying to escape France. The second after he got caught, everyone lost the respect towards him. It was all over, he was moved to the Palace of the Tuileries. I think it was very stupid from his part, because as a king he should've done something to look more courageous. He was then killed 2 years later. Good topic gloria! Smile
