extra credit blog- Je Suis Charlies

Post  Gloria H. on Fri Jan 16, 2015 11:47 am

On 7 January 2015, at 11:30 am, two masked armed men forced their way into the offices of the French newspaper, Charlie Hebdo in Paris. They killed 12 people, including the editor St├ęphane, 7 other Charlie Hebdo employees, and 2 Police officers, and hurt 11 others. Charlie Hebdo had attracted attention for its controversial descriptions of Muhammad. The gunmen were armed with assault rifles, a shotgun, and an M80. They fired up to 50 shots with automatic weapons.
Police imprisoned several people during the manhunt for the two main suspects. Police described the attackers as "armed and dangerous".
On 11 January 2015, up to 2 million people, including more than 40 world leaders, met in Paris for a rally of national unity to honour the 12 victims, in what officials called the largest public rally in France since World War II. The phrase Je suis Charlie ("I am Charlie") is a slogan against the attacks, it is all over the social media. The remaining staff of Charlie Hebdo continued normal weekly publication, and the following issue sold out a print run of 5 million copies

This topic is rather sad. Do they even know as to why these men decided to attack that place?

I feel that the sensitivity toward religion is building up anger and stress nowadays. The magazine was joking around and trying to be amusing, and these men took it so seriously as to kill the workers at the magazine. It's a truly horrifying act and all for religion. I think that everyone should respect one anothers opinions, especially when it comes to think as personal as religon.

Why?

No matter what! No one has the option to decide and murder other people because they spoke bad about their religion. If people move to a country, they have to live under the culture and traditions of that country. They cannot kill someone because they were offended. UNTHINKABLE!
