Marilyn Monroe

Post  Vasilisa on Sun Nov 30, 2014 7:01 pm

Marilyn Monroe was born on June 1st 1926  in Los Angeles, California. She overcame a harsh childhood to afterwards become one of the world's biggest sex symbols. Her mother, Gladys, had developed a psychiatric problem and was soon put into a mental hospital. As an adult, Monroe would tell that one of her earliest memory of her mother was being suffocated with a pillow by her. Growing up she spent much of her time in orphanage. Her mother asked her friends to look after Monroe and she would pay them $25 per month. The couple was super religious and Monroe wasn't even allowed to go to the movies. Once the couple moved they didn't have enough money to take Monroe, so she went to orphanage once more. At age 7, she went to live with another family where she was sexually assaulted. She later said that she was raped at age 11. To get out of that family she had to get married, so she did. At age 16 she married her boyfriend Jimmy Dougherty. By that she had dropped out of high school. Her boyfriend left since he was a marine and she left to work at the factory where she was discovered by a photographer. By the time her husband had returned, she had a successful career as a model and she changed her name to Marilyn Monroe. (Her original name was: Norma Jeane Mortensen.) She dreamed of becoming an actress.

She concentrated on career and soon got divorced. She started to be in all of the movies she could and her parts started to get bigger. She soon would become one of Hollywood's most famous actresses. Monroe suffered from pre-formate anxiety which led to her physical weakness. Over her career time she signed a lot of studio contracts. After being tired of getting only small parts, she left to NY to study acting and when she returned she received mostly praise for her performance. In 1960's her performances went down and people started to get disappointed.

On August 5, 1962, at only 36 years old, Marilyn Monroe died at her Los Angeles home; open bottle of sleeping pills was found by her bed. Cause of her death was drug overdose. Monroe only owned a house at the last year of her life. She didn't have a lot of possessions, but the one she loved was an autographed photo of Albert Einstein, "To Marilyn, with respect and love and thanks."

All these years had passed and we still prize and remember her. This biog.aphy should teach us a lesson, even though she came from the poor family and almost didn't have any chances, she became one of the most popular women on this planet.

Wow, that is insane. I never knew she had such a horrible childhood. It is amazing how even from such circumstances she could rise and become a forever-remembered icon in history. Her story impressive and my respect for her has grown with your post. She didn't let the world push her down, even after the worst imaginable situations. It is sad to know that she died of a drug overdose... Awesome, Lisa!

Although she was very popular and overcame a harsh childhood, I don't think she should be as praised as she is. She was a sad woman who was unhappy with her life, allegedly had an affair and committed suicide. Personally, that is not the kind of woman I want to look up to. She is very beautiful and an amazing woman who suffered a lot and made a life for herself out of nothing, but nevertheless, we can't only focus on the good side of her.
