Cyrus the Great

Post  rosim. on Fri Nov 21, 2014 10:29 pm

Cyrus ruled from 559 B.C. to 530 B.C. He captured Babylon in 539 B.C. His treatment to Babylon showed a remarkable restraint and wisdom. People called him "The Great" because he demonstrated wisdom and compassion in the conquest and his Empire was well organized. Unlike the Assyrians he had respect for others civilization and he had a reputation of mercy. He died in 530 B.C and then his son Cambyses took the Empire and extended over Egypt. after Cambyses son, Darius took over and invaded India and Greece. and he was the one that divided the Empire in 20 provinces which were called satraps. After Xerxes took over, but he was not that successful to keep on growing the Empire .

Wow, interesting topic Rosi! Did you know that the Persians had a very effective communication system? They had many roads were messengers traveled and delivered the messages. The persians also had a great army. It was known as the immortals because if one was killed, he was immediately replaced. You explained everything about Cyrus the great very well! It was true that he showed great mercy, I think this was something good to do. Great job Rosi! Very Happy

Cyrus "the Great" showed a lot of mercy that when he capture Babylon, he let the Jews that were captured there as slaves be freed. Because of Cyrus's mercy, he was the leader of the Jews and the Babylonians. Cyrus was very merciful and smart. He was a powerful and great ruler. Smile

Rosi what you have said is really good, because you have talked about how Cyrus was a successful man until Xerxes was not that good as his other ancestor. The thing that you did a mistake was when you said that Darius divided the empire in twenty provinces called satraps, but really it is satrapies. Another thing that you could mention is that Xerxes was having a war against Athens which was unsuccessful. Still what you have said it’s good.Very Happy
