Amenhotep IV or Akhenaten

Post  Roberta2000 on Thu Nov 20, 2014 6:07 pm

Amenhotep IV, who later changed his name to Akhenaten, was a pharaoh of Egypt who ruled for 17 years and died around 1336 BC or 1334 BC. He is best known for abandoning traditional Egyptian polytheism and introducing monotheism. Aten was their only god. Aten was the god of the sun disk. After his death, traditional religious practices were restored again. Amenhotep or Akhenaten married Nefertiti, one of the most beautiful women at that time.

Roberta this topic of yours about Amenhotep lV was very interesting. This is, because you talked about when he became a pharaoh he turned the traditional Egyptian polytheism to monotheism. Another thing is that you said who that god he introduced as monotheism was. A thing that you might have talked about was that Amenhotep lV was ignored from was being ignored by its own family by the thoughts he had in his heads. Very Happy

Nice topic Roberta! Good job explaining so much information in such a brief way, making it easier for the reader to understand. Akhenaten did do all those things, but not only that, he also moved the capital to the center of Egypt, which was Amarna and is now known as the Amarna Period. We know this due to the Amarna Letters, which are kept in museums all around the world.

Nice topic! Yes, you are right, Amenhotep IV, who later changed his name to Akhenaten wanted to worship only one god, Aten, the son of a sun disk. He also move date capital to Amarna, and his period of rule is often being called the Amarna Period.
