Elizabeth vs Philip II

Post  ebznski on Mon Nov 10, 2014 3:33 pm

Queen Elizabeth of England, also known as the virgin queen, was considered the best absolute monarch during the time of absolute monarchs when Spain and Portugal the powerful countries of Europe. Queen Elizabeth was the person who brought balance to the world so that these two countries could not gain more power over the other, so when one country had more power England would support the other so that they may rise again and the other would not take too much power. She was a fair and just queen to her country and the others around her while increasing the power of England after the invasion of Spain.
King Philip II on the other hand was a cruel and selfish ruler who believed that if you were not Catholic than you are not allowed to live in his country. He completely demolished the Muslim/Jewish populations in Spain after he took control of their homeland. He married Queen Elizabeth's sister, Mary, and together they tried to get rid of every non Catholic however after Mary died Philip proposed to Elizabeth in hopes that their marriage would gain more power for him, but she declined. Philip wanted absolute power over everything he could possibly get his hands on, where as Queen Elizabeth only wanted her people to be happy and live well.

Great review! Queen Elizabeth was truly admirable, and proved the theory that only men can be capable rulers wrong. It is unfortunate that she never had children - while I am completely against the idea that women are for the sole purpose of raising kids, it certainly would've been interesting to see what her daughters or sons turned out to be. Not doubt they would have grown into powerful, fair rulers.

Interesting facts about Elizabeth: she often seems to be wearing a large amount of white make-up, which was apparently the fashion of that time. However, it is said that she did so not only to seem up to date in fashion, but also because she was trying to cover up scares from smallpox. Queen Elizabeth also spoke eight languages: English, Latin, Greek, Italian, French, Spanish, Welsh and and Cornish (about 2,000 people speak it in in Cornwall). In addition, she was the longest reigning female with her 63 years of rule!

Elizabeth I was a really strong and intelligent woman. She proved everyone that not only man can be powerful. Her intelligence brought England more power, when the beat Spain. I find it kinda sad that she didn't have a baby, since then the generation of the kings would continue with their family.

Interesting, you did a great job comparing both of them. Like you said, Philip II was a very cruel man. He was selfish. He was very arrogant. He did not care about what other people thought.
