Hammurabi

Post  Roberta2000 on Thu Nov 06, 2014 5:54 pm

The Sumerians were conquered by the Babylonians; the king of Babylon was Hammurabi. Hammurabi united the cities of summer and most of Mesopotamia. Hammurabi developed a code of laws called Hammurabi’s Code which is written in cuneiform and is numbered from 1 to 282. Hammurabi’s Code is, basically, like “an eye for an eye”. The laws are divided into four different groups which are:
- The Economic Law
- The Family Law
- The Criminal Law
- The Civil Law: Human rights.
A Stela has all 282 laws of Hammurabi’s Code engraved on it.

This is a very interesting topic, you did a good job! You are right, Hammurabi's Code has 282 laws that are based on the "an eye for an eye". By that Hammurabi wanted to scare his people and maintain order in the Babylonian Empire.
