The Aztecs lived structured lives. They filled their days with games, school, work and worship. The Aztecs worked to help their community survive. They helped their community survive by fishing planting and hunting. The crops they grew were beans, tomatoes, bananas, vanilla, squash and tobacco. The cacao bean was not naturally grown in the Aztec land and was very valuable to them. They used it like money. Education was very important to the Aztecs, whether rich, middle class, or poor, you had the right to be educated. They attended two schools depending upon their family status in society. They attended the schools after the age of 10. They went to Calmecal a strict school. They learned sacred calendar law writing poetry and religion. On Telpochcalli they learned warfare trait and citizenship. At the age of fifteen they went to military school. Sometimes girls attended 1 year of Calmecal to become priestess. Aztec women did not often have a public life but they took care of their families.
