Class topic 2

Queen Elizabeth the first a Philip the second had different ways of going about things especially religiously. Queen Elizabeth had a more peaceful reign when it came to religion. She decided to find a compromise between the religions in England to make sure there was peace between her subjects. After Mary had died before converting the country, it was a bit of a mess when it came to religion. Queen Elizabeth did a good job of fixing up the country and helping everyone come to terms with everyone deciding their own religion. She was also a more seen in public queen. She didn't mind the people of England seeing her outside of her castle. This set her apart from other queens and kings in the past.
King Phillip II on the other hand, was a very different character. He was a lot more forceful toward the people of his country, Spain. When he married Mary, he thought that everything would go his way and the religion he wanted would be enforce in not only Spain, but England as well. Unfortunately for him, things did not go this way. Mary died before proper religious changes could be made to the country and when Philip tried his plan again, but with Elizabeth, she declined and he later tried to invade to change the religion instead. There was also the situation with the Dutch. Philip had control over Holland and when they refused to follow his way of religion, he sent troupes there to kill all those who were open about their decision. It was a tragic time.
One can really see the difference in ruling of Philip and Elizabeth. They were very different monarchs. Elizabeth very open and much more like a modern person and Philip very traditional. They were both very involved in the religions of their countries but one made very different choices than the other. In the end, it was Elizabeth’s choices that made her successful for her country.

I am very glad that Elizabeth had been in rule during the 15th century, and that her reign had been so successful. Women should be proud - Elizabeth had shown that the prejudice against female rulers isn't as true as many seem to believe. Unfortunately, discrimination against women it still continues even today, although it is less prominent. Hopefully in the future one's gender won't be considered at all when it comes to deciding who should be in power.
