He grew up in a rich family and his parents wanted him to be a lawyer, so they send him to law school at age 14, but at 16 he came back home because he didn't like it there. When he came back he wanted to become an explorer like Columbus.
The first expedition he led was his most famous one. He went to the central mexico and conquered the Aztecs empire. On his way he made alliance that afterwards helped him conquer the Aztecs empire, and there were people who wanted to kill him in his sleep because they liked Montezuma. Montezuma II was the emperor of the Aztecs empire. When Cortez came to the city at first, Montezuma gave gold to him and all of his people thinking that it would be enough but it wasn't. Soon he conquered the Aztecs empire.
Diego Vasquez wasn't happy with it so he send a ship with men to kill Cortez. Cortez left the capital of the empire to go and fight; he won the fight. When he got back his people had killed Montezuma II. So that night he and his man had escaped the city and a lot of him man got killed, they call this La Noche Triste.
A little bit later he went back and conquered the empire with the alliance he made on his way. They called it New Spain and he changed the capital to New Mexico.

It is interesting that he was sent to law school at the young age of 14... Back then, it was common for children/teens to specialize early on, and become professionals as soon as possible to help support their families. Today, we only choose a specific area to study in college, though in several countries you may lean into science, math, humanities, etc. during high school. I wish we could choose earlier, in my opinion it holds students back and being forced to study things they aren't interested in kills their passion for learning. Anyway, cool post, Lisa! Smile
