Henry VIII and his Six Wives

Post  Belinda K. on Mon Oct 20, 2014 7:35 pm

Henry VIII had gone through so many wives just to get a male son. His first marriage was to Catherine of Aragon, she was the daughter of a Spanish king and also was the wife of Henry's brother but he died. Unfortunately the marriage with Catherine of Aragon didn't work out because she could give Henry VIII a baby boy. His second wife was Anne Boleyn, who Henry VIII had been cheating on while he was with Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn was pregnant with Henry's baby so he had to marry her but the baby turned out to be a girl, so he executed her for alleged treason and adultery, and her daughter Elizabeth was declared illegitimate. His third marriage was to Jane Seymour, she was considered the as the real wife to Henry VIII because she gave birth to a boy, Edward VI, but sadly she died shortly after giving birth to him. Four marriage was to Anne Cleves, it was an advice of Cromwell and the purpose to this marriage was to create an alliance with the Protestant princes. The marriage was annulled by Parliament and Cromwell was dismissed and eventually executed. The fifth marriage was to Catherine Howard, who eventually was beheaded for adultery. Henry's last marriage was to Catherine Parr, a patron of humanists and reformers, she survived him and also she nursed him while Henry was sick.
