The Israelites and the Ten Commandments

Post  Roberta2000 on Fri Oct 17, 2014 6:46 pm

One of the lasting influences of the Israelites was their religion. They were one of the first Monotheistic civilization.  The Ten Commandments are the basic obligations of man towards God and his fellow men, delivered to Moses on Mount Sinai. The Ten Commandments are:
You shall have no other God before me.
You shall not make any graven images.
You shall not take the name of the Lord Thy God in vain.
Remember the Sabbath day, keep it holy.
Honor the father and mother.
You shall not kill.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not bear false witness.
You shall not covet.

Roberta this is a very good explanation of lasting influences that the Israelites had with their religion. As you said they were monotheism, which believes in only one God. Another thing was how the Israelites were delivered the Ten Commandments. Who was Moses, which was told by God to go get them in Mount Sinai. Very Happy

Well done! Very good topic to choose, i liked that you put all the ten commandment, its is an interesting information to know. The religion of Israelites is called Judaism, it is monotheistic (belief in only one god) and still exists today.

Great explanations Roberta! I love the fact that you explained a little bit about the religion and then you actually named all of the Ten Commandments. What you said is very true, indeed. The Israelites were the very first monotheistic civilization and that wasn’t a safe thing to do. Wow! Just imagine the things that could’ve happened to them! They were brave, that’s for sure!

Great Topic Roberta!!!
It was vey intersting. Imagine having these rules now. Our population wouldn't have been so big because since many people kill, and steal things and if nthey did this they would have been punished or maybe even killed.
GOOD JOB!!!!

Nice Topic!! Actually, this was one of my favourite topics about the different civilizations by now. When Moses came down the mountain after being away for 70 days, because it was a 30 day trip and ten days spent in the mountain, his people had already broken all those ten commandments. The story about Moses and the ten commandments is actually very interesting. Very Happy
