The Minoans

Post  Alianny on Wed Oct 08, 2014 6:52 pm

In 2800 B.C, the civilization of the Minoans arrived and were established in the eastern Mediterranean, in the island of Crete. The archaeologist who discovered the Minoans, named them after Minos, the legendary king of Crete. The Minoans had a rich sea trade and with the ships they built, they travelled to Egypt and Greece. The Minoans traded their pottery and gold and silver jewellery with them. They also built many palaces like the one in Knossos, Crete which was the royal seat of the kings. These palaces were very big. As you can see, the Minoans had a wealthy civilization at one point of their existence.

Great topic!Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy  Did you know that the Knossos had about 5 kilometers in area. The Knossos had also pillars which was very different from the rest of the civilizations on earth. The bad part about all of this is that the Minoans disappeared and no one knows why.  pale

Good job Alanny. It was very interesting. Do you know that the historians are looking for things that distorted the civilizations and they think that it was destroyed by a volcanic eruption on the island of Thera and that it was responsible for the destruction. But most of them believe that it was destroyed by the invasion by the mainland Greeks also known as the Mycenaeans.

Amazing topic Alianny, just to add a really important information to your topic, Arthur Evans was an English archaeologist who first discovered civilization of Crete. He discovered the palace at Knossos! Something that I find unbelievable, is that fact that the palace actually had flushable toilets, I mean can you imagine having that kind of technology in that period of time?
