The 3 G's

Post  Vasilisa on Mon Oct 06, 2014 12:02 am

There were 3 causes for colonization. Colonization meaning establishing a political control over an area. The 4 countries that started colonization were: Spain, England, France, and Portugal. Those 3 causes are also known as 3 G's.

1. Political: Became a world power through gaining wealth and land (GLORY)
2. Economic: Search for new trade routes with direct access to Asian/African luxury goods would enrich individuals and their nations (GOLD)
3. Religious: Spread Christianity and weaken Middle Eastern Muslims (GOD)
All of these 3 G's are all connected.

Some examples of the explorers:
Henry the Navigator brought more trade and power to portugal while spread the christianity. Christopher Columbus he brought gold and expensive to spain. Ferdinand Magellan he searched the passage to the pacific ocean because he wanted to be the first one and bring the glory to his country. Vasco de Balboa claimed land and brought gold back to spain.

The three motives (3 G's) reinforced each other.
Also some technology that emerged during that time to reinforce their techniques were:
-Ships (caravel)
-Guns (wheel lock rifle)
-Astrolabe (early compass)
-Mariner’s compass
-Better maps.

The Age of Exploration was a time when many new discoveries were made. Vasco da Gama and Cristobal Colon are the most known explorers of the time.
