Henry VIII was a king in England, he was married to a woman named Catherine Aragon from spain. After years of being married he wanted to get a divorce, he went to the church to ask for an annulment which was denied, so he decided to make his country choose him as supreme leader of the church, judicial power and king. This is when he turned to Lutheranism. After divorcing his wife, he had another named Anne Boleyn who he executed. The he had another wife named Jane Seymour, who died, after her death he had another wife named Anne of cleaves, after a short period of time he divorced her and had a new wife who he executed named Katheryn Howard, then he had his last wife named Katherine Parr, who outlived him.

In the old times the woman was needed just to conceive a child. Henry wanted a divorce with Catharine because she couldn't conceive a boy for him.
