City-States in Mesopotamia

Post  dashas on Sun Sep 21, 2014 10:08 pm

Mesopotamia is called the cradle of civilization because the first civilization began there about 5,500 years ago(in 3500 BC). Many city-states were formed there. Each city state had their own form of government. Eventually each had their own king. Mesopotamia is located between the two rivers, Tigris and Euphrates. The land between those rivers is wiry fertile and farming in Mesopotamia was very successful. In fact people ere able to create surpluses of food. That meant that some people were had a chance to stop farming and begin building the city. As cities began to develop, people wanted to protect themselves from enemies, so the walls around Mesopotamia were built and armies were formed.
