Feudal System Empty Feudal System

Under the feudal system, the king awarded fiefs to his most important nobles, barons, and bishops, in return for their contribution of soldiers for the king’s armies. This is how the social structure worked:
- The King gives the land to the nobles.
- The nobles gave the taxes to the king and they protected the king’s loyalty. The nobles had to give the food, protection and land to the nights.
- The knights received protection, and they gave food, shelter and protection to the peasants.
- The peasants did all the work/farm and they would pay most of the taxes.
The Nobles divided their land among the lesser nobility and they then became vassals. The knights were the great warriors that had great combat skills and they had to follow the code of Chivalry. Knights usually came from wealthy families because it was expansive for the training, the weapons and having a horse. The peasants were the ones who had the hardest life. They where at the bottom of the social structure, they were also called serfs. Peasants worked hard to cultivate land and produce goods for the Lord and his manor needed. They were heavily taxed and were required to give at least 75% of the food they harvested.

The Feudal System was a way to set classes in Europe to help avoid invasions. The peasants where the ones that made up most of the population, and of course they were the ones who were cared about. All they did was work for people in return for food. People where never supposed to be treated this way, the fact that people are treated that way, are still being treated that way today is really sad.

Did you know that around 90% of the people in the fiefs worked as peasants? That is a huge amount of people and I dont think thats fair! There should have been more exceptions as to what people can and cannot do in these fiefs. Peasants worked extremely hard and died young. Most were even dead before they reached 30 years old.

Feudal System Empty The Feudal System

90% of the population during the middle ages was composed of peasants. Peasants were the hard workers that planted and grew food. They also farmed animals such as cows. They were not allowed to do anything. They couldn't even leave their fiefs.

I was really surprised that the knights weren't like in the fairy tales. It was upsetting the they had the code of Chivalry, but they didn't follow it.
