Met Gala Empty Met Gala

As many of you know, the Costume Institute Gala, also known as the "Met Gala", is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. This year's Met Gala, is actually happening right now. This gala also serves as an opening celebration for the institute's annual fashion exhibit. It is widely known to be one of the most exclusive social events in New York and one of the biggest fundraising nights of the city with a reported nine million dollars raised in 2013! The event is attended by personalities from the arts, such as Beyonce, Bradley Cooper, Marc Jacobs, etc. This gala has been held at the Met since 1971 and is considered to be the fashion industry's premier annual red carpet event. Anna Wintour is the Vogue editor-in-chief and has been the host of the event since 1995. Each year the event has a theme, and includes a cocktail hour and a formal dinner. This year's theme was vintage. The best part of the event is when the celebrities arrive and show off their outfits. Every celebrity has a different style, and their own way to adapt their style to the theme. It is so great to see all of the variety that we can be found in the fashion industry. The gathering rivals the West Coast's Vanity Fair Oscar Party, which is said to have more "star power" but less fashion panache. This year, the tickets cost $25,000 per guest! That is probably the most expensive dinner of the year!

I always see pictures from the Met Gala and of all the celebrities dressed up. I think it's really great that a lot of them donate money to fundraisers, because most celebrities are very wealthy. I remember Mr. Adkins said something in class like if only around 10 of the richest people in the world donated all their money, world poverty would be eliminated. Great topic Lou!!

It interesting to learn why events occur and the history behind them. Did you know that during the cocktail hour is when the guests arrive to walk on the red carpet tour. Its insane how expensive the tickets are to enter. Anyways, Great topic Lou!
