Hannibal's Elephants

Post  Joshua T on Mon Mar 31, 2014 12:56 am

Hannibal’s army was equipped with a very secret deadly weapon, the African Elephants. The African Elephant is a slender, yet strong animal that given the right circumstances can become a very lethal weapon. There were 37 elephants that traveled through Europe trampling everything and anything in its path. The personality of these animals can ordinarily be controlled, however when they consume alcohol they become wild, ferocious, and extremely unpredictable. This is the exact methodology that the Carthaginians used in an attempt to become victorious. Unfortunately, there is a downside to this plan. When an African Elephant consumes alcohol it cannot differentiate between a Carthaginian and Roman. This means that the elephant with trample, smash, and destroy everything in its path, including its own masters. This was one of the factors that contributed to the loss of the battle against the Romans.

There is one question that historians cannot answer. How did the African Elephants get to Spain? As we all know, there is a body of water between the African continent and Spain. All books state that Hannibal started his journey in Spain. All the books and sources also state that all the African Elephants at that time were found in Africa, not Europe. Did the Elephants swim or did boats transport them? We will never know.

Joshua I am fascinated by this topic. Hannibal had a good idea in his mind, but the Romans at the end trashed them. I really think Hannibal was strong but one person cant do everything.
