Hangul

Post  ebznski on Tue Sep 24, 2013 9:07 pm

The Korean Alphabet was invented by King Sejong in 1943 naming the alphabet Hangul. He created this new writing system because at that time Korea did not have their own alphabet and were using the same as the Chinese. Because the Chinese people did not have an actual alphabet most of the people living in Korea were illiterate. He spent several years trying to create this new alphabet for his people and when he did he was considered a hero for illiterates.
the letters in Hangul were based off of the shape that your tongue and mouth create when you make that sound.

How did he figure out the shape your tongue made when you said the words if while saying some words, your mouth is kinda closed? It super cool that he invented an alphabet for his people. I guess you learn something new about Korea everyday with you in our class! Very Happy

More than likely he had other people say the letter and then he just studied their mouth, which actually sounds really weird. Very Happy
