Maya civilization

The Maya civilization was a huge one in Mesoamerica. Their territory took over the whole Yucatan Peninsula and modern-day Guatemala; Belize and parts of the Mexican states of Tabasco and Chiapas; also the Western part of Honduras and El Salvador. Their lands was so big that they could find different environments and cultures all over their empire. The mayas of the southern lowland region built their cities ad monuments of stone, this has fascinates explorers for a long time.

The early Mayas came to Mesoamerica at about 1800 B.C. These Mayas were agricultural, growing crops such as corn, beans, squash, and cassava. With time the Mayas expanded their knowledge in farming in the high and low lands. During this time, the Olmecs began to rise and became the first major mesoamerican civilization. This is when they developed their first famous calendar, the Olmec. At around 250 B.C. the Maya civilization reached its golden age and expanded to more than 40 cities; Also their population grew and it is believed that it reached 2 million. The Mayan economy was sustained by farmers, and it is proven that they had advanced methods of agriculture, such as irrigation methods, and terracing. Shocked

One of the most amusing things about the mayan empire is that they built their empire in the middle of a tropical rainforest, unlike other successful empires who built their city in dry climates, where they could use irrigation systems and work together. This land was an advantage for the Mayans because invaders would be disappointed with the lack of gold and valuable things. For the Mayas this was the perfect land because they took advantage of the natural resources found in it, such as salt, limestone and volcanic rocks. The decline of the Mayan civilization maintains unknown to the day, but many think it was because the land was overused and it became arid, so it couldn't sustain a civilization as big as the Mayas. No

The mayans were amazing farmers and agricultural workers who expanded their knowledge all over the world. They grew and are known to be one of the only civilizations to be ever maintained only on agriculture, such as irrigation methods, and terracing. They were very knowlegable and knew how to handle themselves.

A very cool fact is that because of the mayans people thought the the world was going to end in 2012! The mayan calender only goes up to 2012 and that is one of the main reasons that people thought that the world was going to end. They were very good with agricultural work! great topic martha
