A veteran's story

Post  Kat.B on Sun Apr 28, 2013 9:19 pm

My family was evacuated from Russia during the WW2. Of course, some of us had decised to stay. Some died, some got awful injures, some just dissapeared. But others weren't so lucky. From the childhood, I heard stories about WW2. That is the story I once heard, I'll try to tell it without adding details from myself.
"We were marching through the field. A rather big group of us, young men, wanting to fight. We were on a mission. And suddenly we saw thin ropes sticking out of the ground. As the tendrils of strawberries. Mines. But we had to make it. So we continued walking. And then everything turned black. I woke up lying on something cold. Very cold. I slowly sat, and looked,to see, what was so cold. My best friend's arm... It was just ripped out. The surviviors stood up and continued marching."

Wow! That is an amazing story. Which family members of yours were in World War 2? How could that person not freak out when they found out they were lying on the person's best friends arm?! How could that person not have cried or anything?
