INVENTIONS THAT LEAD TO INDUSTRIAL GROWTH

Second Industrial Revolution:
*In the 1880s, pace of industrial development quickened. Chemist and engineers were hired to create even more new products, based on different ideas and resources.

*Economic growth accelerated thanks to science, technology, and industry.

MAJOR INVENTIONS

~Steel
-Developed by Henry Bessemer in 1856. Steel was made by purifying iron and producing new substances. At that time, it was mainly used for bridges, railroads and tools.
-Production of steel tripled in Europe in a period of 30 years form 1880 to 1910. The majority of the production was concentrated in Germany because of the high production of it. They had thousands of steel mills.

~Chemicals
-New products and chemicals such as soap, perfumes and medicines were researched.
-Chemical fertilizers increased the production of food.
-In 1866, Alfred Nobel, invented dynamite. Other explosives were used before but this one was safer.
-It was used to clear passage or mountain tracks for railroads.
-The inventor gained a big fortune because of this invention and instead in more researches for further investigation on new models and inventions.

~Electricity
-New power source that replaced steam.
-Many, many scientists contributed to developments of this source of power

Here are some of the creators
*Benjamin Franklin (American): tinkered electricity

*Alexander Volta (Italian): developed the first battery or power plant in 1880

*Michael Faraday (English): created an electric motor that generated energy called dynamo

*Thomas Edison (American): Businessman and inventor that created the first electric light bulb. Soon cities were illuminated with this great invention. Facotres would now operate during night-time.
-Other inventions by this man: The Phonograh, Motion Picture Camera, Music Recorder.

Great post Helena!

The Second Industrial Revolution brought many new inventions that were extremely important. Although many people would say electricity was the major invention of the Second Industrial Revolution, i would have to expand more on that. I think this mainly because electricity had been around for ages, but the real new invention was how to keep and use electricity in a beneficial way. After this revolution, many electrical appliances were made, and some we even use today.
