Around 1100 B.C the Spartans migrated to the Peloponnesus and built the city of Sparta. They enslaved the farmers who were there and called them helots. There was one Spartan to every five helots. The Spartan army was so fierce the Spartans didn’t build a wall around the city, it was said they had a wall of men.
The Helots rebelled in 600 B.C and were defeated by the Spartans, after this the Spartans killed any helot who made trouble.
A Spartans entire life revolved around preparation for war.
At birth, children were checked for defects. If they were not strong and healthy they were left on a hillside to die.
When a boy reached the age of seven he was sent to live in a barracks and was trained in military and athletic skills.
He was poorly fed and was encouraged to steal to eat. If he was caught he would be severely punished. Feature of Spartans
1.) After 13 years of training they began service in the army.
2.) Men lived in army barracks until age 30 and stayed in the army until age 60.
3.) Men were allowed to marry at 30, but still had to live in the barracks with the other soldiers.
4.) Women lived at home and were expected to support Spartans values; their best value was producing strong Spartan soldiers.
Sparta’s government was an oligarchy headed my two kings.
Ephors were responsible for the education of the young and the conduct of all citizens.

A council of elders decided the issues that would be presented to an assembly of male citizens for a vote.

Good Job Jordan, it was really well done. You included a lot of detail and you were very clear on all of your details. You described a lot about the typical Spartan lifestyle, Good work. I really like how you put things in point form. Keep it up! Very Happy

Spartans weren't intellectual people, the opposite, the focused more on war techniques etc. Spartans were warriors who new everything there is to know about fighting because they went to school from the ages of 8-20. They stopped fighting for Sparta when the were 60 years old.
