What events first sparked Europeans interest in Asia

Post  maddie on Sun Oct 14, 2012 11:57 pm

Europeas have always been interested in Asia. When Marco Polo traveled from venice with his father and uncle to the Chinese court of the great Mongol ruler Kublai Khan. Marco Polo wrote a book on his experiences called "The TRAVLS. Many Europeans read the book and were fascinated by what they thought was the exotic Asia. Later in the fourteenths century , conquests by the ottoman Turks reduced the ability of western travel by land. This started the idea of reaching Asia by sea.

Nice post Maddie!

I am pretty sure that one of the reasons for Europe becoming so interested in Asia was because of trade. In Asia, there were spices that Europeans could buy, then sell for a profit. Also, the firsts silks were made in Asia. These materials were hand-crafted, and because people in Asia would work for little amounts of money, more people could be put to work. The more people working, the more produce made. Europeans began learning that Asia made lots of different products, so they fought to keep the trade routes open. Even now, think of how many things are made in Asia. Big, and successful, companies have all of their things made in China. One of the reasons that America is in such an economic crisis right now is because not enough things are made there. There are more imports than exports, which creates an in-balance of trade. This does not help the economy. Everything at the moment is being imported from places like China, Taiwan, and Japan. While their economies are strengthening, others are weakening.
