Napoleon's Retreat From Moscow

Post  mzazo on Fri Oct 07, 2011 1:56 pm

After Napoleon’s success in Western Europe, he decided to go for one of the strongest nations at the time - Russia. Napoleon’s strong army invaded by western border line in August of the year 1812. As Napoleon advanced in direction of Moscow so the strategy of the Russians was to retreat back, by the time they got to Moscow it was completely empty, the Russian Government had given orders to the citizens to leave their homes and take everything with them. By the time Napoleon and his troops arrived to Moscow, half a year had already passed and it was December. Napoleons troops were not accustomed the extreme low temperatures of -38 degrees C, and found no food or water, as the Russians had left the city completely empty of provisions. Napoleon lost over 30, 000 men and a lot of machinery along with weapons. This was the main cause of the downfall of Napoleons Empire.
