Ongoing issues?
Humans are all equal, genetically at least. Our cultures and nationalities are what make us different, but under our color of skin, we are all the same. The slight differences in us humans have allowed and influenced people to take advantage and create discrimination, slavery, and genocide. When people think of slavery and genocide, they usually think of back in the days. You know, like a past tense issue. But that's really not the case because it still goes on today, with many lives but not actions, being taken.
Throughout this ongoing genocide, African farmers and others civilians in Darfur are being murdered by the Janjaweed, a government-supported group recruited by local Arab tribes. The genocide in Darfur has caused 400,000 lives to be taken and 2,500,000 people to be displaced out of their own homes. More than one hundred people continue to die each day w/ about five thousand dying every month.
The U.S plays a big part in supporting the peace in Darfur. The U.S. government has been active in speaking out on the issues of the people of Darfur, but even with their help there is still much more work needed to be done.
For long-term peace in Darfur and a somewhat "end" to the genocide requires that the government of Sudan, the Janjaweed, and different rebel groups of Darfur find a way to resolve their political and economic issues.
Hundreds and thousands of innocent people continue to die from murder, disease and starvation every month. For those who have read and still don't know what the meaning of genocide is... Genocide is violent crimes toward a specific group(s) with the intent to completely wipe out the existence of that group. The holocaust is a perfect example of that; Hitler was attempting to completely wipe out the Jew population. Will genocide ever stop? Will countries, not only Darfur, come to some sort of agreement to end the killing of such a great amount of innocent people?

Re: Ongoing issues?
this is terrible. I really don't know what to say. It really bothers me that so many of us are at home living comfortable lives with food in our bellies and a blanket to go under when we are cold while there's so many people out there living in those horrible conditions. It's just not fair. What bothers me the most though is that we hear about so many other unimportant things on the news and in our magazines but do we ever read about these every day struggles? no. Are we going to wait around until something even more extreme happens before we really get informed? This makes me want to go out and do something to help. NO ONE should ever be discriminated. As you said, we're all the same on the inside.

Re: Ongoing issues?
When i hear of mass murders or genocides, i think of it as a good thing. Think about it, one day, this world will run out of food to feed the growing population, hence, the more people we kill, the longer this world will survive. Thats just a more optimistic view to look at it.
