Greek Food

Post  Reny P. on Sun Dec 12, 2010 6:33 pm

In ancient Greece food had philosophical and religious meaning. Greeks almost never ate meat, except if it was a sacrifice to a god. They believed it was a disgrace to eat a tamed animal. Greeks even believed that some fruits were cleaner than others. For example, the Pythagoreans would not eat beans. The Haniotiko Mpoureki is a typical vegetarian dish found in Crete. Now the most famous and most used element in Greek food is olive oil.

They also have these round donuts called Svinghi, I made them last year four class. They consist of butter, water, salt, sugar, flour, eggs, and cinnamon. Do you guys remember them?

Would ever want to try the Haniotiko Mpoureki? Could you be able to live with out eatin beans or meat?

Maybe they didn't eat meat, but they ate fish, a lot of fish. Greece is still popular for its delicious seafood.

Beans and meat is where you get most of your protein so the Greeks must have had problems with malnutrition. They also have olive oil with everything! they dip it in plain bread! At least they ate olive oil rather than vegetable oil because olive oil is healthier but still, they are both fattening.

Unfortunately peter they got their protein from the fish. They ate plenty of it too. I would most likely not want to eat that dish that is very hard to pronounce. Razz but hey its worth a try!
