Ancient Sumer

Post  Marielly Martinez on Fri Dec 03, 2010 4:37 pm

The first Sumerian started to emerged around 3200 B.C. They emerged in the southern part of Mesopotamia. Euphrates and Tigris are the two major rivers in Mesopotamia. People lived in the shores of the rivers. It was easier for them, to water their crops. Even dough when the river would rise and destroy all their villages they wouldn’t move. It was easier for those who had their crops in Egypt near, Mediterranean Sea, and Red Sea. They had Fertile Crescent, with the water that rose from Persian Gulf to Mediterranean and go over the crops and they would grow a lot. But once about 4900 years ago a flood destroyed the Fertile Crescent. Not everything, because right away villagers started to build dykes to hold back the flood waters and irrigation ditches. This is found in the poem of “The Epic of Gilgamesh”, and how a great flood destroys the world. Between 3000 B.C.-500 B.C. writing started to change. Cuneiform writing came by then. Outline character (3000 B.C.), Sumerian (2000 B.C.) and Babylonian (500B.C.). Each had a different era and they would have it in different pictures form. It wasn’t only the writing but also social class.

Sumer was a great civilization that aported a lot to modern day, like cuneiform. The sumer where really smart peaople to pick mesopotamia because it is in the fertile crescent and it is perfect for gowing crops and settleing down, although like marielly said when the river rose and flooded their villages and killed many people. Nice Marielly!! 8D SINCHE scratch
